Leading Authors of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror at SDCC

Tor, Tor Teen, Tordotcom Publishing and Nightfire are thrilled to return to San Diego Comic-Con. Below is a list of their authors who will be taking part in panels and signings:

Charlie Jane Anders, Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak

Charlie Jane Anders is the author of Victories Greater Than Death and Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak, the first two books in the young-adult Unstoppable trilogy, along with the short story collection Even Greater Mistakes. Her other books include The City in the Middle of the Night and All the Birds in the Sky. Her fiction and journalism have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Slate, McSweeney’s, Mother Jones, the Boston Review, Tor.com, Tin House, Conjunctions, Wired Magazine, and other places. Her TED Talk, “Go Ahead, Dream About the Future” got 700,000 views in its first week. With Annalee Newitz, she co-hosts the podcast Our Opinions Are Correct.

Ryka Aoki, Light From Uncommon Stars

Ryka Aoki’s first novel, He Mele a Hilo, was published by Topside Press in 2014. She is a two-time Lambda Literary Award finalist for her collections Seasonal Velocities, and Why Dust Shall Never Settle Upon This Soul. Ryka’s work has appeared or been recognized in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bustle, Autostraddle, PopSugar, and Buzzfeed, as well as the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center. Her most recent novel, Light From Uncommon Stars, was a national bestseller, and was recognized as one of the best Science Fiction & Fantasy books of 2021 by Barnes & Nobles, Kirkus, Goodreads, Bookpagem and the New York Public Library. Ryka has been honored by the California State Senate for “extraordinary commitment to the visibility and well-being of Transgender people.” She has an MFA in creative writing from Cornell University, and is cur­rently a professor of English at Santa Monica College. Susan Dennard, The Luminaries

Foz Meadows, A Strange & Stubborn Endurance

Foz Meadows is a queer Australian author, essayist, reviewer and poet. She has won two Best Fan Writer awards (a Hugo Award in 2019 and a Ditmar Award in 2017) for yelling on the internet, and has also received the Norma K. Hemming Award in 2018 for her queer Shakespearean novella, Coral Bones. Her essays, reviews, poetry and short fiction have appeared in various venues, including Uncanny, Apex Magazine, Goblin Fruit, HuffPost, and Strange Horizons. Meadows currently lives in California with her family. A Strange and Stubborn Endurance is her fifth novel.

R.R. Virdi, The First Binding

R.R. Virdi is a two-time Dragon Award finalist and a Nebula Award finalist. He is the author of two urban fantasy series, The Grave Report, and The Books of Winter. One of his short stories is part of a collection of artists’ works to go to the moon aboard the Astrobotic Peregrine Lunar Lander in 2022. He was born and raised in Northern Virginia and is a first generation Indian-American with all the baggage that comes with. He’s offended a long list of incalculable ancestors by choosing to drop out of college and not pursue one of three pre-destined careers: a lawyer, doctor, engineer. Instead, he decided to chase his dream of being an author. His family is still coping with this decision a decade later. He expects them to come around in another fifteen to twenty years. Should the writing gig not work out, he aims to follow his backup plan and become a dancing shark for a Katy Perry music video.
